When you start development on a project, all you have are a few ideas and a long road ahead. As time progresses, you get to watch the concept become reality. Little steps contribute to the bigger picture.
Through the course of development, you hit roadblocks and stumble. Unseen problems become evident. You must adapt.
But you don't give up. You innovate. You conquer. You continue forward and exceed your own expectations.
We've put a lot of love into this, and we're proud to release it to the world.
We hope you enjoy it. This one's for you.

Good luck with FlockDraw it looks very useful. I would like to contact you about it. No way to 'feedback' via the website #8^(
ReplyDeleteLook me up on Twitter - SalesArmyKnife
Thanks #8^)
Congratulations! Excited about Flockdraw--especially the "embed" function. But when I click "Embed" (on Snow Leopard FF 3.5 or Safari 4), nothing happens. (Although it does glow nicely on mouseover.)
ReplyDeleteHave same problem as Ben - tried with FireFox 3.5, Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome 3. I really love the idea but misses embedding ;-)
ReplyDeleteI can't get it to work? Instructions?
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for this experience!
ReplyDeleteSome feedback:
- nothing happen when clicking embed (FF 3.5)
- drawing desappearing when opening the link again: some friends draw stuff, I close the tab, I reopen the link, the drawing has disappeared... pretty useless :)
Trying to get it to work, it wont collaborate in real time. Hopefully just a final launch glitch. I could see this is a good tool to visualize my data center descriptions to my customers in real time, without a lot of complicated software on the backend.
ReplyDeleteIsnt working for me, click start drawing, nothing happens. Cant wait to try it ou though, looks to be quite promising!
ReplyDelete--One critique however,
The main page has quite a nice polish to it, but then there is such a gaudy and clunky "start drawing" button. I think that this button needs to be redesigned to better match the look and feel of the page. In its current state, it is quite an eyesore.
All of the above.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work - clicking on the "Start Drawing" button in Firefox or Chrome does nothing.
ReplyDeletewww.flockdraw.com doesn't work, but flockdraw.com does.
ReplyDeleteLove the tool. As an educator I could DEFINITELY use this in the classroom. I would LOVE to see a larger canvas perhaps. One that several students could create on. It's fantastic though. Great work!
ReplyDelete@jswiatek
i cannot share this with my friends using vista,ie8,and firefox3.5
ReplyDeleteProblem using FD in a classroom environment, at least as tested with IE8. Our computers run through a proxy server. The drawing part is fine but sharing the URLs doesn't get collaboration working. Each remains unique.
ReplyDeleteStill completely not working for me in FF & Chrome. "Start Drawing" shows Javascript:newRoom() but clicking does nothing. No third-party pop-up or ad-blockers installed. Just doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteHi,Peter
ReplyDeleteYour problem is same as i have.I think it caused by port number. I dont know which port number FD uses. Our proxy server shuts down several numbers(for example 10000)Http use 80 port number.but FD not.
i was having fun with a bunch of others this morning, but now I can't share it.
ReplyDeleteFirefox, Mac 10.6
Love it mister :)
ReplyDeleteembed needs a closing script tag, then it works
ReplyDeletefor example www.joe.to/j2/draw
when i try to use it on my site now, it says "your flockdraw client is out of date, reload the page to use it"
ReplyDeletebut when i reload the page it still has the same message
how do i fix it?
here's the error i'm talking about
ReplyDeletehttp://www.joe.to/images/2009_2/draw_broken.jpg
Great Stuff! Good Luck...
ReplyDeleteReally cool tool! I've blogged about it here
ReplyDeletedhmtangledintheweb.blogspot.com for my graduate course.
My son and I tried it out and everything went great.
Is there a way to change the drawing tools point size?
Wow. Coolest idea I've seen in a while. It wasn't collaborating yesterday, but is today. I'll bet your server is getting loaded up.
ReplyDeleteI like that it is so easy you don't need instructions! Simplicity at its best.
For the record, I'm follower 13. I feel like i've gotten in at the ground floor on something very cool! I'm surprised Google didn't think of this first. You are a genus!
ReplyDeleteI really like this application and demonstrated it yesterday to some teachers at a SmartBoard workshop. I had similar embed experiences to some other commentators yesterday, but today works more than as expected on a webpage, not so great on my blogger page. That is a blogger limitation, though, with the width of my "page" in my template. So, I deleted my blog entry.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work, and thanks again for what you have done so far.
Thanks for developing this.. had a great time yesterday playing pictionary with my friends around the country. Now, if you could just make a chat window...wow....it'll be the next big thing, look out...you are going to be millionaires.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to get this to work at all. If this is because it's using some non-HTTP port number, then it's dead in the water to many people due to corporate firewall blocking, and I can finally give up on it and close the tab...
ReplyDeleteThis is great, however, it would be nice to have a public room list of some sort so that it'll be easier to draw with others without having to set something up before hand.
ReplyDeleteapparently there was an update this morning and now i can't use the client either embedded or on the flockdraw page - get the "client is out of date" message at both URLs
ReplyDelete(previously when i got the error on my embed page, i could still use the flockdraw URL of my same canvas).
i've tried soft refresh, hard refresh, clearing cache, restarting browser, nothing works!
HELP!
For those of you having issues behind firewalls/proxies, we'll be fixing the issue relatively soon.
ReplyDelete@Para
Chat will be implemented pretty soon.
@Cabot696
We might do something of the sort in the near future.
@grunion2
That problem *only* happens if you're using an old version of the whiteboard client. The newest version definitely doesn't have this issue.
I'm really enjoying FlockDraw, thank you so much for an excellent and fun resource!
ReplyDeleteI have a feature suggestion; would it be possible to get a thumbnail of the whiteboard? I would like to put a thumnbail of on my website to get more people interested and maybe have the thumbnail update every hour or so if there has been changes made.
Is it possible to download the drawing as an image ?
ReplyDeleteIsnt working for me, click start drawing, nothing happens (Internet Explorer). Please, help !
ReplyDeleteThanks.
It doesn't work. The 'Start Drawing' button does nothing. I tried it in Firefox and Safari.
ReplyDeletetoday (thurs) it's not updating - i can draw (blank white canvas) but when i refresh the page it's gone. server is down or something?
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, it's like pictochat but on your pc!
ReplyDeleteThe only issue I have is the colors. It would be nice if there was a color wheel or something. I can't draw people with orange skin :/
Sorry.. it looks great and the drawing tools are very easy to use, but as there is no "help" link anywhere, I have NO idea how to use this collaboratively. Will there be some sort of user documentation available soon?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Linda
look at what someone made on our flockdraw:
ReplyDeletehttp://i45.tinypic.com/1z5jkppf.jpg
that should have been:
ReplyDeletehttp://i45.tinypic.com/1z5jkpf.jpg
Drawings aren't saved. :( Refreshing clears the page.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry... The Team Fortress 2 Board from the Steam Users' Forums has crashed FlockDraw...
ReplyDeletehttp://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=80
I apologise on behalf of all of us.
However, it was hilarious.
@Polendino
ReplyDeleteYeah... we're all really sorry... We're bad people...
Any word on when it will be back up?
ReplyDeletethe colour and size pallettes would be better left open, independently of the tool pallettes. The visual simplicity is nice, but not worth making the app less usable for.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are a million more features you could add, but my vote is for adding the ability to paste in pictures, or link to pictures.
I thought of this idea ages ago, but since implementing it would have involved going and learning how to programme in Flash or whatever I never did anything about it. Good to see it has become a reality.
Don't know where to submit bug report, but here it is:
ReplyDeletemozilla ff 3.5
ubuntu 9.10 64 bit
emulated 32-bit flash 9
I push "start drawing".
Result:
blank blue-striped screen
Too many hackers and bots already. Can't do anything. Within 10 minutes of having a shared space open, it's filled to capacity, starts flashing the screen like one you'd think that induced epilepsy, and then starts kicking the REAL people out saying "room full" crap at the top.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea, but maybe some sort of CAPTCHA to enter the room?
flockdraw is really great, its just what i was looking for.though it has way to perfect.good luck
ReplyDeletewhen i include embed script in my homepage, it does not work, i cannot see the drawing in my homepage.. is there a trick or workaround for this?
ReplyDeletehasn't worked in a month for me. i can load the page and draw but nothing is saved on the server. when i refresh, it's always back to a blank white canvas. everyone i know who was using it has the same problem
ReplyDeletemy guess is they just released it and forgot about it :(
@lokidecat - not sure if you're right about that being caused by hackers and bots... if you posted a link publicly, the flashing is quite probably two people fighting with a fill bucket, and the room full problem is probably because so many people join...
ReplyDelete@grunion2 - that's not a bug. the server doesn't persist sessions.
I am making a blog and I embedded flockdraw into the middle post. When I do that, I cannot see the drawing tools :( Is there a way to resize the flockdraw screen to fit in the blog. I am using blogger.com
ReplyDelete@lunixbochs i don't understand. let me see if i have this right:
ReplyDeleteas long as 1 person is using my embed, anyone else will see/use that same canvas.
when users drops to 0 the image is erased and replaced by blank white page
is that correct? did it always work that way? it seemed like the first couple weeks it was out there were always images on there and now it's always blank. did anything change?
Flockdraw still has some troubles... it's absurdly easy to troll.
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to boot people individually?
And if each person had their own nickname / account name there could be an /undo function like iscribble.net's?
Is there an easier way to contact you guys?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Emily's comment - having a list of who is in the room, and either having the 'creator' of the room being able to boot or having a voting system (3 warnings from different users and out). That sort of system would need some way to identify the person messing it up though. Maybe showing next to the name which tool and colour they are currently using?
I love the site, but I wish it as possible to boot.
HTML5 Version?
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteHere are my comments:
Cute site, I understand how to share, I would use it with kids to learn how to create in team.
I would appreciate a way to export the drawing and a way to share on the page I work with.
It's kind of shot-lived, you don't get to put a period at the end of your sentence. It's interesting in a way, but not in the context I would have use for it.
Great work and continue to work on it. thank you!
Is there a way to set up public rooms? Would be nice to have an option to have an open room kinda thing.
ReplyDeleteFYI someone going by the name of FTD has decompiled your whiteboard.swf and is using a hacked version to autodraw, view usernames of people in the room, view new rooms as they open and join them and crash browsers.
ReplyDeleteLaunched 2009...start drawing button still doesn't work.
ReplyDelete@Brain - sorry it doesn't work, you might be behind a proxy or firewall.
ReplyDelete@Kedia - the server has no provision to list rooms, so it's impossible for someone to be joining new rooms as they open...
add a ? to yor blog!
ReplyDelete..hello ..i'm testing flockdraw amongst other solutions in order to be used for street art oriented website (www.dian.sk) and i want to ask if there is a possibility to embed the engine and have own pattern (namely a bridge wall) on which the drawing tools can be applied ..for me it would be perfect just to remove the basic white pattern and set it to transparent so i can place it over any other picture i want people to draw on ..what do you think about the idea of implementing such option?
ReplyDeletePasting sounds great... except, I see a lot of abuse coming from that. I recently posted a Flockdraw URL online somewhere, drew for about 20 or 30 minutes, and a stranger logged on and macro-drew an entire screen-full of porn. What will pasting do?
ReplyDeleteAlso, saving doesn't work for me. Whenever anyone clicks on the "save" button, every person in the room experiences the same problem: the white and black swap, then the black disappears, leaving only lines where the borders were.
it's very similar to www.drawsum.com
ReplyDeleteI like it!
Can u help me i have a problum!
ReplyDeleteWhen i comment on someons drawing how do you post the comment please tell me!
just post the answer here telling me please thanks
ReplyDeleteheyyy i want the option to see populated rooms and an option for a roomowner, yah ability to own rooms to like tinychat, to make the room invisible or passworded etc
ReplyDeleteand more tools etc
view counter on images and rooms
and then some customization of the looks and embed of a room
those are some things that i think would improve flockdraw a whole lot!
cheers
what i want most of all of that rite now is a directory coz i wana paint with others but i find no populated room
Flockdraw should add an eyedropper tool. A color picker. That would be very useful. :3
ReplyDeleteyes yes yes
Delete@jamie
ReplyDeletebeen done with a modded client, http://flockhack.tk/ or http://casfire.com/flockdraw/flockmod both have an eyedropper.
Thanks for all the good work ;
ReplyDeleteBut there's some problems when i want to submit : the loading continue over and over and never success. Waited for 2h but nothing happened.
So bad...
Thanks again anyway.
Me and my co-workers LOVE Flockdraw and play with it every day. A few comments for improvement (sorry I didn't read all 70 comments). 1. There is a lag sometimes between users, where after long enough all our screens look different. 2. Saving my work never seems to happen, it just loads forever and ever. 3. Love the idea of an eyedropper tool. 4. An undo function! Oh man do we need this! 5. The ability to import small images from urls. That'd be the ultimate fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the good work, keep it up!
ive just found flock draw, been looking for somthing like it for ages. only 1 thing tho, i know the idea is to flock together nad draw with others, but id like to see options on having a unique 1 user only option and implimented in the embed code. love to see that as i would implement it on my blog then and have my visitors doing all there own drawings on a one user page, if at all possible. mite end up taking lot of server space i dunno. but its great and will be watching for updates
ReplyDeleteNeeds eyedropper, needs opacity changer, needs to have open rooms to browse to meet new people, needs a place to give you feedback other than this blog...
ReplyDeletelousie are u still my buddy?
ReplyDeletewhile I am excited at the Flockdraw concept there's obviously some things that need work. For starters, if people want to create an account and have to wait for an email to confirm the account it helps if ya'll actually emailed the confirmation :) I've been waiting all day for something and thus far haven't heard a peep.
ReplyDeletesame problem, i've tried 12 times now.
DeleteI am not receiving account activation email even after requesting it dozens of times for a gmail.com email account. I cannot activate my account.
ReplyDeleteSame problem. I not receiving activation email.
ReplyDeleteI cannot activate my account, would otherwise like to use FlockDraw.
ReplyDeletewhat is tha way for get colours when i drow something i cant get meny colours only black.i need help
ReplyDeleteAs good as this is, it could definitely use more tools. An eye dropper tool, and an undo button would be great. Shapes should also be included.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to delete my account (CityNaturePig)?
ReplyDeletePlease?
Nada cool
ReplyDeletefff
